Independently researched rankings of the best wellness resorts and wellness retreats for liver health and liver wellness, from Lake Constance to the Himalayan foothills.

Unveil the treasured sanctuaries of liver health wellness resorts, where healing traditions meet modern metabolic science. Our team reviews each retreat carefully, reading the resorts' own programme pages rather than what others say about them, and focuses on wellness criteria that blend traditional and modern practice into a stay built around nourishment, movement and expert support.
We see through the online noise with laser-focused clarity, allowing you to enjoy your best wellness journey effortlessly. Here you will find the world's top destinations for liver wellness, fatty liver, metabolic health and liver care in one place.
The liver is the body's chemical works, and it is remarkably good at looking after itself: unlike most organs, it can regenerate, regrowing healthy tissue after injury. That capacity for repair, liver regeneration included, is why lifestyle change works: when the load of fat and alcohol falls, a fatty liver can recover and early scarring can improve. Its commonest problem today is fat building up in the liver, now called metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD, formerly NAFLD), which affects around one adult in three worldwide and travels with excess weight, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. It usually causes no symptoms, and the concern is slow scarring of the liver over years. What helps is well established: losing weight if you carry too much (5% or more of body weight reduces liver fat, 7 to 10% can calm inflammation and 10% or more can improve scarring), a Mediterranean-style diet, regular exercise, which reduces liver fat even without weight loss, little or no alcohol, and good control of blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol. The liver does not need a "detox", and detox teas, cleanses and herbal supplements can themselves harm it. For liver health, a retreat can give you a running start on the habits that matter, with doctors watching over you. This guide records what each programme is designed for and does not repeat claims that a stay cleanses or cures the liver.
With so many accommodations on the wellness bandwagon these days, true independent, thorough, specialized data is more important than ever. "Liver detox" appears on hundreds of spa menus; very few resorts say plainly which liver problems a programme is designed for. We searched in more than a dozen languages across Europe, Asia, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa, opened every candidate's own pages, and ranked first the resorts whose own material names fatty liver, raised liver values, chronic liver disease or liver problems in what they offer; the last two places go to the best near-fits we found, and each of their cards says plainly what it lacks. For liver wellness we ranked the specialists first: programmes that measure the liver, run for two weeks or more and are built on medical oversight, food and exercise rank above shorter or cleansing-based stays, and we say plainly where a programme includes procedures or remedies the liver does not need. Every programme here works without surgery or pharmaceutical regimes.
Welcome to the restoring world of liver health wellness resorts. This guide starts from a simple truth: unlike most organs, the liver can regenerate when it is given the chance. Above Lake Constance, a century-old fasting tradition pairs doctors and nurses with daily walks and talks on food. In Karlovy Vary, a spa hotel's doctors follow the liver with scans and blood tests alongside the town's mineral springs, and in the Bavarian Alps a hotel doctor guides a short liver fast. In the Himalayan foothills an Ayurvedic programme unfolds on a maharaja's estate. In the Tyrolean Alps a new resort pairs blood tests with a planned kitchen, and in Miami physicians, dietitians and exercise physiologists teach the daily habits a liver thrives on. One shared aim runs through them all: liver wellness that lasts, sending you home lighter, fitter and with habits worth keeping up.
Type: Therapeutic Fasting
Address: Wilhelm-Beck-Str. 27, 88662 Überlingen, Germany; +49 7551 807-0
Stay options: Compact (10 nights), Classic Light (14), Classic (21) and Classic Royal (28)
What the fasting is designed for: fatty liver and NASH, metabolic syndrome, and insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, among the indications for its therapeutic fasting.
Buchinger Wilhelmi stands high above Lake Constance at Überlingen, with views across the lake to Mainau Island and the Alps, and carries on the fasting method of Dr Otto Buchinger. Its indications name fatty liver and NASH (now called MASH) outright, alongside metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. A stay brings a doctor's interview and examination, comprehensive laboratory tests discussed with you, two doctor's consultations a week, a daily nursing check, daily group exercise therapy and relaxation, talks on medicine, psychology and nutrition, and a therapy voucher of €45 a day towards treatments.
Weight loss, exercise and nutrition teaching are what help a fatty liver, and a medically supervised fast delivers all three in a structured way; the long-term benefit depends on how you eat afterwards. Fasting is a medical intervention with real contraindications, and bowel cleansing is part of the fasting routine (see the medical procedures section above). Buchinger Wilhelmi calls itself a clinic, with nursing and an on-call doctor around the clock; a sister clinic in Marbella follows the same method. Some of the clinic's broader claims about fasting and disease are not ones we repeat.
Buchinger Wilhelmi publishes its 2026 services and prices for Lake Constance on its website; fasting packages include accommodation, and prices depend on room and package, so ask for a quote. Official website: buchinger-wilhelmi.com.

Type: Medical Spa Programme
Address: Petra Velikého 16, 360 01 Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic; +420 359 018 811
Stay options: 14 nights minimum; 21 nights, which the hotel calls the optimum
What the programme is designed for: people with fatty liver disease, in the hotel's words, with the stated aim of stopping the disease from progressing to scarring (fibrosis) or cirrhosis of the liver.
Savoy Westend Hotel is a five-star hotel of 114 rooms in five villas in Karlovy Vary, the West Bohemian spa town of thermal springs and colonnades. Its medical centre, led by Dr Ladislav Špišák, has its own laboratory and is accredited by the Czech Ministry of Health for rehabilitation and physical medicine, with a doctor on call at weekends. The fatty liver programme brings regular medical check-ups, FibroScan scans (a painless ultrasound measure of the liver) and blood tests to follow the state of the liver, consultations with nutrition specialists and a meal plan, the Karlovy Vary drinking cure, massages, baths and muscle stimulation.
Measuring the liver, nutrition advice and a meal plan over two to three weeks are what a fatty liver programme should offer, and few resorts anywhere provide them. The programme lists electrical muscle stimulation but no exercise sessions, so plan daily walks and ask the doctor for an exercise plan; it also lists detox procedures without saying what they are, so ask before you travel (see the medical procedures section above). Evidence that the drinking cure helps the liver is thin: a small 2026 pilot study, which measured the liver only before and after a three-week cure, reported improvements that did not always last. The waters are rich in salts, so anyone with fluid build-up or high blood pressure should drink only on medical advice (see the safety section above). The hotel's English pages describe this programme in cure terms that we do not repeat, and it publishes no list of who should not take part; the attending doctor sets the programme according to your health.
The programme page gives no price, and the programme price excludes accommodation and meals; ask the hotel for a quote. Official website: savoywestend.cz.

Type: Liver Fasting Programme
Address: Steilhofweg 19, 83457 Bayerisch Gmain, Germany; +49 8651 98250
Stay options: 14 nights, year-round (the length the hotel recommends); seven-night group retreats on set dates, from 15 to 22 November 2026 and from 7 to 14 March 2027 (14 nights also possible in March)
What the programme is designed for: reducing liver fat and improving metabolic values, in the hotel's words, with non-alcoholic fatty liver and metabolic syndrome named in particular.
Klosterhof Alpine Hideaway & Spa is a four-star superior hotel at Bayerisch Gmain in the Bavarian Alps, near Bad Reichenhall. Its liver fasting programme, "Leberfasten nach Dr. Worm", is built on three HepaFast shakes a day (protein shakes with oat fibre) and two vegetable or raw-food dishes of no more than 200 kcal each, with liver wraps of Reichenhall brine and Alpine herbs (five on the retreats, ten over 14 nights), talks by Dr Andreas Färber, the hotel's doctor, regular check-ups, the 1,500 m² Artemacur Spa and a fitness room. A medical package from the doctor's practice in the hotel, billed separately, adds an examination before the start, an abdominal ultrasound and laboratory tests, progress checks by bioimpedance (a body composition measure), continuing medical care with nutrition advice and a closing consultation; the March 2027 retreat adds a doctor's letter and nutrition sessions with Isabell Heßmann, a nutrition scientist (Diplom-Ökotrophologin) and television nutrition expert.
A doctor's examination, a liver ultrasound and blood tests, nutrition advice and steady weight loss make this a focused short programme for a fatty liver, and the prices are published. It is a very low-calorie meal-replacement diet: the benefit for the liver comes from the weight lost, not from any particular shake, and lasts only if the weight stays off. A diet this low in calories can bring on gallstones and often means adjusting diabetes and blood pressure medicines; it is unsuitable in pregnancy, with a history of eating disorders, with type 1 diabetes or with advanced liver disease unless your own doctor agrees. The hotel publishes no exclusions, so ask for them before you book (see the safety section above). The hotel's claims about the fast's effect on common diseases, and its description of the liver wraps, are not ones we repeat.
The seven-night November retreat costs from €1,695 per person sharing (€2,345 single) and the 14-night stay from €3,305 sharing (€4,561 single), plus the medical package at about €650 or about €1,100, billed separately; the March 2027 retreat costs from €1,820 sharing (€2,443 single) plus about €890 (operator site). Type: Holistic Detox Programme
Address: The Palace Estate, Narendra Nagar, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarakhand 249175, India
Stay options: 7, 14 or 21 nights, at Comprehensive or Intensive level
What the programme is designed for: liver issues, slow metabolism, and digestive and cholesterol issues, for which the resort describes the programme as ideal.
Ananda opened in 2000 on the palace estate of the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal at Narendra Nagar, above Rishikesh and the Ganges valley. Its Holistic Detox programme brings a pre-arrival consultation with a Wellness Consultant, then a Lead Consultant on arrival, through the stay and in a follow-up consultation after you leave, Ayurvedic therapies (11 to 33 therapy hours at Comprehensive level, 18 to 53 at Intensive), personal yoga sessions, daily hydrotherapy, daily classes, and full board following an Ayurvedic, constitution-based diet; the Comprehensive level adds a physiotherapy and an emotional wellbeing consultation.
The diet, yoga, daily movement and time away from alcohol are the useful core for the liver, and the follow-up after you leave helps habits stick. The programme is built on Ayurvedic cleansing (see the medical procedures section above) which may include herbal preparations, and the resort's claims about the liver and toxins are not ones we repeat; no liver tests are listed, so bring your own results.
Programme rates are quoted per night in US dollars plus 18% GST; the last published rate sheet ran to April 2026, so ask the resort for current rates. Official website: anandaspa.com.

Type: Detox & Weight Management Programme
Address: Oberau 72, 6311 Wildschönau-Oberau, Tyrol, Austria; +43 5339 29300
Stay options: Basic (7 nights), Advanced (10) or Premium (14); the resort recommends 7 to 14 nights
What the programme is designed for: among its target groups, in the resort's words, "Individuals with elevated liver values or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease seeking targeted medical intervention and structured nutritional reset", alongside weight management, metabolic syndrome and digestive disorders.
Mount Med Resort is a new medical wellness resort, in its own words, at Oberau in the Wildschönau valley of the Tyrolean Alps, with rooms, suites and chalet suites, a spa and its own Cook for Health kitchen. Every version of its Detox & Weight Management programme begins with a standard blood panel, blood pressure, urine and oxygen checks, metabolic testing, an oxidative stress measurement, a 3D body scan, an ECG and a heart rate variability measurement, followed by a medical examination and history and interim and final medical consultations. Five meals a day, described by the resort as anti-inflammatory, two supervised endurance training sessions, body treatments, a colon massage and an infusion complete the seven nights. The 14-night Premium version adds a follow-up blood test compared with the first, a closing body scan, a further consultation with a physician, two personal training sessions and holistic consultations at the start, middle and end.
What to know: an individually tailored infusion, whose contents are not stated, is part of every length, so ask what it contains and ask for a doctor's review first, or ask to leave it out (see the medical procedures section above). The resort's doctors, in independent private practices on site, are surgeons, orthopaedic and trauma specialists and a general practitioner rather than liver specialists, and no liver scan is listed, so bring recent liver results and keep your own doctor involved. Blood tests, medical consultations and a structured way of eating are a sound start for liver health, and the 14-night version shows whether your blood values have moved. The shorter versions include only two supervised exercise sessions, so plan daily walks. The colon massage does nothing for the liver, the resort's language about eliminating toxins is not one we repeat, and no exclusions are published: ask before you book.
The programme costs from €3,584 for seven nights, €4,652 for ten and €6,135 for fourteen, excluding accommodation (operator site, which does not say whether this is per person; seasonal offers vary, so ask). An agent quote including room and full board, for stays from 1 October to 31 December 2026, runs from GBP 4,299 to 5,199 per person for seven nights and GBP 7,899 to 9,129 for fourteen (agent quote, Healing Holidays). Type: Residential Lifestyle Programme
Address: 8755 NW 36th Street, Miami (Doral), Florida 33178, USA; (800) 327-4914
Stay options: the Pritikin Transformation Program, residential stays from one week, with 30 days of follow-up through the Pritikin Plus app
What the programme is designed for: metabolic syndrome, diabetes, LDL cholesterol and heart health, among the health goals the programme names, as "an immersive physician-led residential program bringing together medical expertise, nutrition, movement and behavior change". It does not name the liver.
Pritikin has taught healthy living since 1975, and its programme now runs within a large golf resort in Doral, west of Miami. A stay brings a physician consultation and assessment of about forty minutes, in which the physician goes through your blood panel with you, ongoing medical guidance, a team of registered dietitians, exercise physiologists, behavioural health experts and health educators, daily exercise in the gym, pools and group classes, chef-prepared meals built on the Pritikin eating plan, and lectures, workshops and cooking demonstrations every day, with a month of app support after you leave.
What to know: Pritikin's programme pages do not name the liver; it is here for its physician-led diet, exercise and weight programme, the kind of change that matters most for a fatty liver, and it publishes no prices. Losing excess weight, eating well and exercising regularly are the first-line advice for fatty liver in the European guidelines, and this is the most complete teaching of those habits on the page. Pritikin's health assessments page lists blood panels, body scans and an exercise test without saying which every stay includes, and no liver scan is listed, so bring recent liver results and ask your own doctor to repeat them a few months later. Any change to your medicines must come from your own doctor.
Pritikin does not publish its rates (operator site); ask a programme adviser for a quote. Official website: pritikin.com.

Buchinger Wilhelmi stands high above Lake Constance at Überlingen, looking across the water to Mainau Island and the Alps, and has carried on Dr Otto Buchinger's fasting method since the clinic opened there in 1953. Its indications name fatty liver and NASH, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, and a stay combines a medically supervised fast with laboratory tests, regular doctor's consultations, daily nursing checks, daily exercise and talks on nutrition and health, before a careful return to organic meals. Among liver health wellness resorts it is the one for a medically supervised reset in a long-established house above the lake.
Savoy Westend Hotel is a five-star hotel in Karlovy Vary, its 114 rooms spread across five villas in the West Bohemian spa town of thermal springs and colonnades. Its medical centre, led by Dr Ladislav Špišák, has its own laboratory, and its programme for people with fatty liver disease runs two to three weeks, combining regular medical check-ups, FibroScan scans and blood tests, nutrition consultations and a meal plan with the town's drinking cure, massages and baths. Among liver health wellness resorts it is the one for a doctor-led fatty liver programme that measures the liver, in a classic spa town.
Klosterhof Alpine Hideaway & Spa is a four-star superior hotel at Bayerisch Gmain in the Bavarian Alps near Bad Reichenhall, run by Dr Andreas Färber, the hotel's doctor, and Henrike Färber. Its liver fast, aimed at reducing liver fat, pairs three HepaFast shakes and two light vegetable dishes a day with liver wraps, health talks and, through the doctor's practice in the hotel, an examination, an abdominal ultrasound, laboratory tests and progress checks, with the Artemacur Spa and the hotel's activity and relaxation programme around them. Among liver wellness retreats it is the one for a short, structured liver fast with published prices in the Alps.
Ananda opened in 2000 on the hundred-acre estate of the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal at Narendra Nagar, above Rishikesh and the Ganges valley. Its Holistic Detox is designed for liver issues, slow metabolism and cholesterol, with a Lead Consultant guiding the stay and following up afterwards, Ayurvedic therapies, personal yoga, daily hydrotherapy and an Ayurvedic menu from the estate gardens. Forest walks and the resort's Rishikesh temple tours, which include the evening Ganga Aarti, make slowing down part of the stay. Among liver health wellness resorts it is the one for an Ayurvedic programme of the highest standard.
Mount Med Resort is a new medical wellness resort at Oberau in the Wildschönau, a high valley of the Tyrolean Alps, with chalet suites, a spa and its own Cook for Health kitchen. Its Detox & Weight Management programme names raised liver values and non-alcoholic fatty liver among the people it is designed for, and over seven to fourteen nights it combines blood and metabolic tests, a body scan, an ECG, three medical consultations and five planned meals a day with supervised training and body treatments; the fourteen-night version repeats the blood test so you can see what changed. An infusion is part of every length, there is no liver scan and the resort's doctors are surgeons and a general practitioner, so bring your own liver results. Among liver wellness retreats it is the one for a measured metabolic reset in a new Alpine resort.
Pritikin has taught healthy living since 1975, and today runs its programme within a large golf resort in Doral, west of Miami, with a gym, tropical pools and tennis. Physicians assess each guest, exercise physiologists lead daily training, dietitians and chefs teach the Pritikin way of eating, and behavioural health experts help make it stick, with a month of app follow-up afterwards. It never names the liver, but weight, food and exercise are what matter most for a fatty liver, and few places teach them as thoroughly. Among liver health wellness resorts it is the one for learning the daily habits behind good liver health, from people who have taught them for half a century.
Medically supervised fasting above Lake Constance, with fatty liver among its indications.
Buchinger Wilhelmi stands high above Lake Constance at Überlingen and continues the therapeutic fasting method of its founder, Dr Otto Buchinger. Its indications name fatty liver and NASH, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes. Stays of 10 to 28 nights bring doctor's examinations and consultations, comprehensive laboratory tests, daily nursing checks, daily group exercise therapy and relaxation, and talks on nutrition, medicine and psychology.
On the evidence. Weight loss and exercise reduce liver fat, and a supervised fast produces weight loss. An uncontrolled study of 697 guests at the clinic (Drinda and colleagues, Nutrients 2019) found the fatty liver index, a score from blood tests, weight and waist size, fell after an average fast of eight and a half days; it had no control group or long-term follow-up and was funded through the clinic. Fasting is a medical intervention with real contraindications, including cirrhosis. The clinic's page also makes claims about fasting, stem cells and the treatment of disease that have not been shown for the liver; we do not repeat them.
Setting: A hillside at Überlingen high above Lake Constance, looking over the forested shores to Mainau Island and the snow-capped Alps.

Not without your liver specialist's agreement; tell the clinic before you book.
Will fasting clear my fatty liver?
Weight loss reduces liver fat, but what lasts depends on how you eat and move afterwards.

On the evidence. Weight loss reduces liver fat, and a very low-calorie diet of meal-replacement shakes is one way to lose weight quickly under medical supervision; the benefit lasts only if the weight stays off. Rapid weight loss raises the risk of gallstones and often means adjusting diabetes and blood pressure medicines. Liver wraps are for relaxation and have no shown effect on liver fat.

Physician-led teaching of the diet, exercise and weight habits that matter most for a fatty liver, in Miami.
Pritikin has run residential lifestyle programmes since 1975, now within a large golf resort in Doral, Miami. The Pritikin Transformation Program, from one week, brings a physician consultation and assessment, registered dietitians, exercise physiologists and behavioural health experts, daily exercise, chef-prepared meals and daily education, with metabolic syndrome, diabetes and LDL cholesterol among its named goals, and 30 days of app support afterwards. What to know: no Pritikin page names the liver; it is here for its physician-led diet, exercise and weight programme, the kind of change that matters most for a fatty liver, and it publishes no prices.
On the evidence. Losing excess weight, a healthy diet, regular exercise and control of blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol are the first-line care for fatty liver in the European guidelines (EASL-EASD-EASO 2024). The programme complements prescribed medicines rather than replacing them, and lists no liver scan.
